Vagabond

The vagabond has historically occupied a position on the margins of society — between freedom and precarity, between movement and the absence of a permanent home. In Denmark, vagabonds and itinerant drifters have always been part of the social landscape, often met with both suspicion and fascination. They have moved along rural roads and through small communities, without fixed ties to work, housing, or institutions.

This series consists of portraits of Danish vagabonds photographed against a white background with a Hasselblad 500C on black-and-white film. The simple, frontal staging removes surroundings and reduces context, allowing the gaze to focus on face, body, and presence.
