Covid-19

On the evening of March 11th., Denmark entered an unprecedented period when Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced the nationwide shutdown following the outbreak of COVID-19. Schools, workplaces, cultural institutions, and borders closed almost overnight, transforming everyday life across the country. Streets emptied, public life paused, and isolation became a shared condition as Denmark, like much of the world, attempted to contain the pandemic.

This series documents the first year of the pandemic in Denmark — from the days immediately after the shutdown in March 2020 to the moment the first vaccines offered a path out of the crisis.
