When a journey becomes an escape

 

On highway E45 a group of refugees and migrants is moving through Denmark in September 2015, having travelled through Europe after arriving from countries in the Middle East and North Africa. Many have already crossed several borders and passed through multiple transit countries, and most are now trying to reach Sweden.

The highway is closed as the group moves along the road, turning a space designed for speed and transit into a slow procession of people on foot. Families, young men, and children walk along the hard shoulder with their belongings.

As police attempt to manage and control the movement of the group, some refugees try to move away from the convoy and avoid being stopped.
