Cox's Bazar - Rohingya

 

More than half a million rohingya Muslims fled from Myanmar to Bangladesh in the fall of 2017. For decades they have been persecuted by the military in Myanmar because of their religion. After a Muslim rebel group, attacked several police outposts in Myanmar the military fought back and burned down hundreds of rohingya villages and killed thousands of people.

In the hilly countryside outside of Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh, the rohingya refugees live in small home-built houses of bamboo and plastic.

The conditions in the camps are miserable. There is a huge lack of food, drinking water and medical care. Lack of toilets causes feces to flow directly into the groundwater and pollute the drinking water that is being pumped up.

People suffer. Many children are malnourished and adults struggle to gather food for their families.
